As a 65 yo, I've been through high rise decades and low rise. I really don't think high rise jeans look good. All you see is bellies ( from the profil view) and bums that seem to start in the middle of your back and looks like big pears. I'm 5'4" and I know low rise jeans don't help, but the look is awesome, makes me feel better and more boho, witch I love. Smaller bum and the accent is not on the belly.
Great video! I agree on every point you made. I used to be 5’9 1/2” tall. Most of me was legs. But since I became a ‘senior’ and have worsening spine issues, I’ve lost an astounding 4” of height. Fortunately, my legs are still long. So I’m now short-waisted up top but tall below. I’ve made many observations and evolved many opinions, some strong, re women’s fashion over the years …
1. Low-rise pants and jeans visually lengthen the torso at the expense of the legs. Further, petite women can still be long-waisted relative to their inseams and many are. For this reason, low-risers don’t good on most people.
2. Ankle-length and capris pants never flatter a woman unless she’s uber-lean and slimly-built. Unfortunately, clothing manufacturers are more than happy to keep pushing the short length, because it’s cheaper at their end.
3. Originally, the stirrups in pants were always hidden inside footwear. Their latest resurrection, where the stirrup is not only not hidden, but stretched high up the calf, reminds me of Borat’s outrageous mankini! In short, please don’t. Just don’t.
4. The slimmer a woman is, the more she can get away with, no matter her height, when it comes to style.
5. Leggings do not flatter most women, despite their popularity.
6. All women whom are full-busted should wear good bras that ‘hold the girls’ up. Droopy boobs make any women look even shorter and less well-kempt.
7. I love following Milan street fashion channels. What just led on the Italian runway often translates into high-end readymade wear. It was there that I noticed women, of all ages and heights, wearing the not-quite palazzo jean cut with simple white t-shirts (that probably cost $400). Not one woman was wearing leggings or skinny jeans. The new cut is waist-high, drapes beautifully from the hip, is loose in the leg. Whether worn with a T and platform tennis sneakers or a finer short jacket and polished heel, the look is at once effortless but yet so ‘together.’ Unlike the ‘barrel cut’ that makes even tall women look squat, it visually lengthened the legs of every woman wearing a pair. When I saw one of my favorite not-high-end shops started carrying the cut in several styles (one in Tencil, one in denim with a hint of stretch, both with ‘comfort’ waistbands), I gobbled them up! Sadly, most American women seem resistant to give up the ubiquitous body-con cut, even when it really undermines the look they’re seeking.
