I don't understand why leopard print boomerangs back almost yearly. It's so awful.
Omg I feel so vindicated. What's "in" right now is what I associate with grannies, librarians, Golden Girls, the Loveboat, etc. So when I'm (50) trying on new styles I think I look at least 30 years older, like a granny. When young girls wear that stuff it's called "sophisticated" or something like that, but I think it's just old, OLD! 😂
Great video! I just turned 40 and even I haven't attempted any of these styles (cheap/furry animal print jackets, fugly chunky/moto boots, shiny/metallic bombers, boho all over) ever! I may wear one piece of boho inspired fashion; either a pair of (my beloved) flared jeans or a romantic top, but I've always believed that embracing a trend/style and wearing it head to toe will cheapen your look and make it costume-like, no matter your age…
Streamlined brings attention to you're a "big age." 😅
Born in 1970 and raised in Southern California where the boho style has easily been, far and wide. Like anything else, the style comes in a spectrum. There’s the “dirty hippie” boho look and then what I like to call the “rich hippie” boho look (think model Molly Sims or designer Rachel Zoe.). I love the rich boho style and probably won’t ever give it up.
“If you wore it the first time ‘round…” 😂😂😂😂😂😂
Regarding shiny/metallic items: I'm a wedding minister, and a LOT of mothers of the bride/groom wear shiny dresses to weddings. Many of the mothers are in their 50s, some older. Grandparents tend to dress as fancy, but I've seen lots of sparkle coming from the immediate family of the wedding party. What are your feelings about this? Most of these folk are 50 and over, and in my opinion, this is not a trend that is going to pass any time soon (the sparklization of the MOB/MOG)
Today most of the people look 10-15 years younger than past generations.
I am 53 yr old and 5’2” Even though I kind of like boho style, I think it looks great on tall, skinny and young ladies like models. Thank you for the tips!
Thanks, that's a really helpful video and done with support and kindness. And as someone who does want to age gracefully, I appreciate the tips and agree with what you say for me. No judgement on anyone who still wears whatever they like, "Live and let live"
If you can buy a vintage teddy coat, do so. It will not look cheap. I have two of them, one in black and one in camel. They are so warm and are timeless.
Life is too short to dress for others. Make yourself happy. This is what you learn when you have the privilege of growing old.
Unless you have no breasts, I advise to avoid the extra "Nipples" that the top buttons create. I am a 34 C and only wear single breasted blazers.
Bo-ho is not for me. It reminds me of the unwashed hippies from the late 60's & 70's. If I want a Bo-ho moment, I'll wear several silver rings with jeans and a t-shirt. LOL.
I think boho can be worn at any age as long as it isn’t sloppy looking. I wear a lot of boho that has mid flowy non clingy items since they are more comfortable for me. Can boho be chic…no I personally haven’t figured that out. But at this age I prefer boho versus the preppy look that I personally think ages women.
Based on my personal style preferences, i agree with all of your opinions except Boho!
Similiar to dressing in an eclectic fashion, Boho represents more than a style or a trend. For some, it's genuinely a reflection of their life, their personality, interests, and way of being: Comfortable, confident, playful, creative, and shiek come to mind. Having said that, these styles require a degree of effortlessness or can risk coming off as costumey. Done well, Boho and eclectic styles, imo, are intriguing and timeless and therefore ageless.
I think bits of leopard, and small amounts of shimmer or shine are great – especially in monotone dressing. They just add a touch of texture – not a whole outfit. I’m very short though, so that might be a factor. 😊
I agree with most of the observations here. I think the chunky boot wide leg pant thing is exacerbated by the pants being too baggy and waaay too long. Oversized and overly baggy clothing, and sleeves that hang too low don’t look cute if you’re older either. 😮
For decades I was all about boho fashions. During the mid 2010s I was overjoyed to see maximalism boho trends with jewelry layered everywhere and mixed prints and fabrics, and layers and layers of everything hippy dippy. (The Coachella look, but more covered up.) But at my age, that is just too much stuff. The newer boho looks are so sheer and drapey that I don't think I would look good in them. However, I will always love the rock and roll look and do some variation of that as I age, including biker or combat boots, boxy tees, black leather jackets or blazers, plaid touches, etc. Maybe not all worn together at once, but incorporated into my casual looks with jeans or men''s style pants, etc. I think if it's a big part of your overall personality and identity you should be true to yourself and do your thing, just maybe in moderation or like you said, pared back, in a more modern take on that look.
if your child is wearing what you wore at their age, show them how to rock the vintage vibe!
❤66 … great body 5’2 115 lbs ….. little girl socks loafers and mini skirt looks great on me til you get to my face😂….. for sure a no no for me
You’re just old.
I have a double breasted jacket I only wear open. Love it, so not sure where the problem would be. I do think you are straying into the territory of telling older women (I'm the same age as you), what they should or shouldn't wear. Not the most likeable content from you.
I'm 53, but I'm often mistaken for 35 years old. I wear metallics but usually just one item, and keep the rest neutral. I don't care for loafers or maryjanes, I wore them the first time around, they just don't interest me. I also love to wear Boho, I think your completely wrong about it. I love Free People and Anthropologie and it all depends on what items you choose and how you incorporate the items into your wardrobe. There are tasfeful but fun ways to wear boho. It's so easy for people to fall into the boring aesthetic of minimalism, clean girl, quiet luxury or old money looks which are all on the way out. I love cashmere, pearls and the classics and basics but why not have a dash of boho for some fun. Why do we all need to be so serious with our fashion just because were older. We can still be chic with a dash of boho. Also, haven't you heard Maximalist fashion is supposed to be coming in for Spring. Mob Wife is still trending. Why not take fashion risks at our age.
I do like the loafers with a sock and skirt even though I've only worn it with a short skirt once recently. At 50, I've come to the conclusion that animal prints make me feel older, and cougar-like (that's just how I feel for me, not others) so I limit it to a scarf and that's about as much as I like it. Boho I feel is almost a part of California style and I would still wear it maybe more toned down perhaps a long flowy dress and hat to the right ocassion, perhaps a trip to Napa. I agree on the high biker boots for sure.
Love this ❤
I agree with several of your suggestions. I am almost 70 and plus sized. Double breasted jackets make me look like a tank. I think you have to be very thin to wear them. No possibility I would wear a jumpsuit. No way! I have a nice little animal print shell, and that will do it for me.
Yes to the boho you're showing, but there are other boho relaxed styles. I, unusually, Disagree with your views here. Surprisingly old fashioned.
Love a bit of boho but not top to toe, I really like Frankie from Grace and Frankie but I wouldn’t feel comfortable in so much fabric, I love to see others in it though. Also I love a chunky boot with my wide leg trousers/jeans I don’t do pointy toed anything anymore as too uncomfortable and they make your feet look huge. 😬 I do like your advice but like all things in life you listen take the bits you want and then adapt , thank you leonie for always giving us great advice xx
I love these over 50 Videos. Thankyou!
I love all fashion videos to be in the know but honestly, this is the only video of yours that I 💯 agree with you. Age does matter & as we age, we don’t want to look like either we’re sadly clinging to our younger years or desperately trying to mimic 20 year olds.
I think socks with loafers are not a good look over fifty or sixty I agree with you
Yes, I completely agree with what you say about the BOHO-styling! 😊
3:00 you mean ''don't look like an old tart'' 🤣😂
Ich bin 63 Jahre alt, und unterwerfe mich nicht einen Modediktat
Is that a bath tub in your living room? Beautiful room😃🌟❤️🎄
